SECRET OATH, 2021
This work explores the expression of love
as non-verbal language. For someone who
is captivated primarily by language and the
ways it frames the world, this terrifies me.
In ‘Cartographies of Silence’, Adrienne Rich
writes “Language cannot do everything.”.
This propelled me to thinking about the
necessity of recognising the gaps of
expression in the written and spoken word,
and the vastness of possibility that lies in
other modes of artistic expression, such as
visual mediums. What I cannot express in
words I express through visual art, and vice
versa. This painting therefore is a love
letter, and this write-up says nothing to
explain it other than that, and the struggle
and acceptance of it.
