PORTALS (2022) Exhibition, Open Studio
PORTALS was shown as a work-in-progress exhibition as part of the Starch Open Studios in June 2022. The concepts in PORTALS are that of The Threshold Between Worlds, multi-dimensionality and alternate and parallel universes, and infinite possibilities and probabilities. This series of works is inspired by the multiverse theory found in theoretical cosmology and TTRPGs, and was primarily grounded in the 20-sided dice, or the D20 – each side of the die represents a different possibilities or timelines and trajectories a narrative could flow. It also explored reflective surfaces, such as water and mirrors, as portals or gateways into different dimensions or realms – a concept vastly explored in a myriad of world cosmologies, mythology, and folklore. Using mirrors, light, reflection, projection, sound, and sculpture to create illusions of forms, PORTALS attempted to create the seemingly tangible in what is actually intangible – a reflection of the human imagination in creating possibilities and calculating probabilities before they happen, and even when they may never happen at all.
